Wetland tour

“Colombo, emerging one and only south Asian wetland city” within 18 cities across the globe, declared by RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands held in Dubai. The wetland complex in Colombo spreads across Diyawannawa, Beddagana, Thalawathugoda, Kotte, Kolonnawa, Thalangama and Ambatale rendering a mammoth of services, which are often looked over by stakeholders.

What we’ll do

Day 1

We start the day at Borelesgamuwa, EI Life Skills Training Team’s Head office by the introduction presentation of prof about the wetlands in Sri Lanka . This presentation will take place for about 2 hours. After the lunch we will take you to see the beautiful butterfly garden in Diyasaru park . Diyasaru park is a home to over 25 species of butterflies. You can spend a relax evening there

 

Day 2

In the early morning we will leave the Borelasgamuwa office at 5.30 am   and expecting to reach park by 6.15am or 6.30am to watch the birds at the special tower and the“ Bird Hid” which is a camouflaged shelter built to observe birds closely without disturbing their natural behaviors  dedicated for birds watching. You will be able to see lots of elegant birds as well as indigenous birds. Diyasaru park provides shelter to over 50 types of migratory birds too.

After the bird watching  we gather at resting hut near the entrance to take have breakfast . Next we EI Life Skills Training team do provide a brief lecture session by our consultant. Within the session your doubts and questions can be discussed with our expert. Then you can enjoy a Sri Lankan Authentic Lunch.  After a short break , in the evening You get the opportunity to walk around the park and  join to a boat ride which covers the whole park. The trip duration is said to be 45 minutes. You can also find fishing cats, otters, and estuarine crocodiles in the park.

Day 3

Morning after the breakfast we will leave to the Diyatha uyana park . At the entrance there are showcase of fishes . You can buy flower plants, clothes and accessories from the market in the park. When you pass the market you enter to the area dedicated to wetland watching . You can go on different paths to discover the beauty of the wetland and take photographs . You can enjoy a good lunch from the food stalls available in the market .

After the lunch we will come back to the office to take a short break and visit the proposed wetland park area in Kolonnawa in the evening. You can observe that Kolonnawa wetland area have a high potential to become a weltand park.

 

Day 4

In early morning we will leave to the Baddagana wetland park which is called as the one of the most mysterious ,  calm and majestic wetland park in Sri Lanka. You will be able to observe the indigenous trees since name tags are there . It is a recommended place to observe  birds and other species. The park have beautiful bridges too. You can spend half a day without even feeling that. Since no food is allowed there you will be able to enjoy lunch outside and return to the office for a short break. In evening we will like to know your ideas ,suggestions on how to develop the proposed Kolonnawa wetland .

What to bring

Nothing much to bring as all basics are arranged by our team. But do not forget if you are following any daily medicine after or before meals please do bring your medicine with you. And Sun protection, Hats, Cameras on your interest and protection.

 

What to Wear

The Climate in Sri Lanka is tropical and consists of very distinctive dry and wet seasons. The average temperature of Sri Lanka usually ranges from 28 – 32 degrees Celsius. So that while visiting wetland parks we recommend warm clothes. For women, loose cotton skirts or trousers and tops, and a long dress or skirt. For men cotton trousers or shorts and a T-shirt.
