Why we need you to teach English

English is a universal language.  Fluency of English language plays a vital role in order to enhance the tourism sector.  Sri Lanka's population has a literacy rate of 92%, higher than that expected for a third world country; it has the highest literacy rate in South Asia and overall, one of the highest literacy rates in Asia. But in case of second languages like English even though rural community have access to the language education, fluency of language is less than urban areas due to mainly because lack of opportunities and suitable to sharp their fluency. Rural community in Sri Lanka is often shy and afraid of speaking English, even if they are good at grammar and writing.  

Batticaloa is the one of the rural areas in north east province. Batticaloa is rich with beautiful beaches and lagoons, and a history that dates back to ancient times, having been ruled by both Tamil and Sinhala royal dynasties and later by European colonists..Baticaloa have a warm climate and surrounded by Beautiful beaches, religious places and light houses etc.  It is a paradise for tourism. We need you to help us with English practice not grammar which community can learn from textbook. We need you to interact with them and create the favorable environment that enhances the opportunities to practically use their speaking skills without worrying about the mistakes they will do .we believe you can make that favorable environment for their betterment.

Who are We?

Emotional Intelligence and Life Skills Training Team (Gte) Ltd: is a pioneer non-profit based training and consulting team on promoting Emotional Intelligence and Life skills and designing/ implementing innovative, creative,  cost effective positive behavioral change social marketing campaign development in Sri Lanka. Within the last 14 years EI Life Skills training team has served over 14000 people in different backgrounds all over the island.

EI Life Skills training team comprises group of young professionals in several fields from different ethnic groups and religions, represent different districts of the country. Also, this Team consist National and International level Resource persons in practical experience relevant to the developing media materials in skill training program especially emotional intelligence, life skills as well as tourism and hospitality.

Asia Mantra is new initiative of EI Team to protect travel tourism and hospitality industry in Asia. We are expecting a youth volunteer with high energy, self-motivated to enhance spoken English fluency of the community in Batticaloa.

• We focus mainly on the current employees and job seeking candidates in tourism sector since they already have the existing knowledge of the grammars and vocabularies  . We need you volunteers support to focus on enhancing speaking and listening skills.
• Also we focus on the students who are willing to interact with you and sharp their spoken and listening skills.

Time Commitment 

A minimum time commitment of 4 weeks is required. For volunteers and interns with little experience, a five to twelve weeks minimum time commitment is encouraged. 

Accommodation

Accommodation is included in the package and our district consultant will assist you for your needs and security. Accommodation is sharing basis with maximum 2 persons. If any requirements of individual stay on single rooms can be arranged.

• Identifying the current level of English knowledge of the students
• Identify what areas they need improvements
• Preparing lesson plans to cater the improvements
• Conducting the class with the active interaction of students
• Give enough opportunities to polish the fluency of knowledge
• Conduct assessments and evaluations to check the progress

Batticaloa is surrounded by Hindu religious places and beaches. Also endless site seeing, restaurants, coffee shops and many more. We can arrange a Yoga Meditation session on request. Our experienced Yoga practicing teachers are available. Beaches are available close by. Including swimming and surfing.

Travel Logistics

The organization will do everything to make sure our volunteers remain safe during their stay in Sri Lanka.

Availability
you can participate in our projects throughout the whole year. Please make sure that you arrive only during weekdays so that we can arrange everything for your arrival.

Continued Commitment
It is possible for volunteers to continue contributing to the organization as a virtual volunteer after returning home.

• Minimum Age

In order to join the program you need to be at least 16 years old on the program start date.

You need to speak English (excellent level)

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12 pm to 5 pm.

Asia Mantra works hard to keep the required financial contribution to an absolute minimum and to offer financial transparency by practicing an open book policy. We do this to encourage longer stays, recognizing that longer stays lead to more significant volunteer work and more energy contributed in the form of donated time in place of money!

Travel Logistics

The organization will do everything to make sure our volunteers remain safe during their arrival and stay. On arrival at the airport you will be welcome by our English speaking driver. On arrival at the placement location, our Staff will welcome you and bring you to your accommodation.

Accommodation

Accommodation will be Close to supermarkets, Banks, National Hospital and schools, restaurants. The city and their surroundings are very safe. All important locations are only minutes away and it’s safe to walk at night.

Living together with volunteers from all over the world is a unique chance for cultural exchange and can be an exciting and new way of living compared to anything you’ve ever experienced before. It has certainly been a key experience in the lives of many past volunteers! Volunteers work and live together and learn how to be empathetic and considerate of others’ needs. They share their free time, house cleaning tasks. It means they also become close, develop lifelong friendships and have immense fun along the way! We feel that it is important to highlight that we have created an environment of respect and consideration. If you wish a single room upgrade add $50 per week and an all in Host Family homestay upgrade is $175 per week, including a private bedroom and two meals per day.

What's NOT included?

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.

The nearest airport is Bandaranayake International Airport.

Travel Insurance

Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for security and is a plus to have.

Vaccines

If you are intending to volunteer in Sri Lanka you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey.

Program Fees

Due eight-weeks before departure.

START CROWDFUNDING 

Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Sri Lanka. We will offer you a letter of confirmation after the interviews and on recruitment confirmation by Asia Mantra.

Deposit (15%)

The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement.

Final Payment (85%)

Your final payment will be agreed with Asia Mantra during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
